Run-on sentences - what are they, and how do I avoid them?


A run-on sentence happens when two or more sentences are improperly written as one.

example of a run-on sentence:

Today is George and Martha’s wedding anniversary, they’re going to The House of Spam to celebrate.

corrections:

  1. Today is George and Martha’s wedding anniversary; they’re going to The House of Spam to celebrate .
  2. Today is George and Martha’s wedding anniversary. They’re going to The House of Spam to celebrate.
  3. Today is George and Martha’s wedding anniversary, so they’re going to The House of Spam to celebrate.
